Stracciatella for a Circular Economy
Following an extensive period of research and experimentation, Selle Royal Group is proud to introduce the Stracciatella technology—an innovation representing a significant step forward toward circular and more responsible production.
The Stracciatella technology embodies a cutting-edge approach that enables the recovery of production waste materials, transforming them into granules that are reintegrated into the padding foam of new saddles. This process, which entails a major enhancement of production cycles, not only significantly reduces waste but also aligns seamlessly with Selle Royal’s long-term vision of a circular industrial production model. It positions Stracciatella technology as a key initiative in achieving the company’s sustainability objectives, contributing both to the reduction of manufacturing waste and the optimization of resource use.
Saddle production, like any industrial process, inevitably generates a certain amount of waste originating from product development trials, testing, machinery calibration, manufacturing defects, and specific chemical reactions during foam polymerization. These “functional” semi-finished product scraps—comprising complex materials such as PVC covers, PP/PA bases, PU foam, and Royalgel™—have traditionally been difficult to recycle due to their mixed composition. Years of research and development have enabled the company to overcome this challenge with Stracciatella technology, which, through an innovative mechanical process, transforms these scraps into a new granular material. The characteristics of this material allow it to be reintroduced into the production cycle, effectively becoming foam for new saddles.
The Stracciatella process is continually being refined, with broad application already planned across Selle Royal’s production lines and product range. More information on the Stracciatella collection can be found here: https://www.selleroyal.com/collections/stracciatella
