Cycling Industry Climate Commitment
The President and CEO of Selle Royal Group Barbara Bigolin is one of the first signatories of the Cycling Industry Climate Commitment. A pledge by all those working in the bicycle industry to acknowledge their responsibility in the current climate emergency and to act together to meet the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Launched in 2021, the pledge is based on evidence that up to 80% carbon dioxide emissions caused by bicycle companies come from the extraction, sourcing and production of components and materials. Meanwhile, the recycling of materials, products and components is limited.
It is therefore necessary to work together to:
- reduce production-related emissions
- create longer-lasting products
- work with customers to extend the life cycle of products
- develop a circular system for material recovery
These objectives translate into two concrete actions for Selle Royal Group:
1) Report
By 2023 and then annually thereafter we will assess our company’s impact in terms of carbon dioxide emissions and publish the results, analysing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with the GHG Protocol.
2) Reduce
We will submit a plan to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 55% by 2030.
For Selle Royal Group, the Cycling Industry Climate Commitment is just the first step in a long journey the cycling industry must embark on to achieve Net Zero, i.e. zero carbon emissions throughout the supply chain.
